Shh....Don't Tell !

(A poem on the theme- Smelling Stories at the Poetry Tuesdays event for the month of December 2018.I recited this poem at the event.)

Wonder how it would be if I had the power of smell?
What if I could smell anything and everything within a radius of half a kilometer?
Who knows.....maybe then this poem would hold true.

 I may look quite ordinary
But ordinary by far I am not,
I have the olfactory power,
A super-smelling sense I have got!

If you don't believe me
Let's put my powers to test,
I'll tell you what I smell in here,
You can put your doubts to rest.

To my right is a pretty girl,
Who just painted her nails today,
That guy is just back from his village,
His hair still reeks of hay.

I know that' pure veg' guy there
Had spicy chicken wings for lunch,
 While this elderly lady
Had garlic prawns for brunch.

That embarrassed one in the corner,
He stepped on some fresh horse poop,
This one here had masala bhaat
With palak and tomato soup.

Uh-oh, someone has farted,
I can point out and say it's who,
It was noiseless but a smelly one,
I bet none of you has a clue!

That handsome guy has downed,
A couple of beers and a gin,
This ' on a diet' young girl
Hides potato fries with a grin.

The one there says he's quit smoking,
But he just had a drag,
And that charming gentleman
He carries a brand new bag.

All you can smell is coffee and deo.
And maybe someone drenched in sweat,
While I can smell a plethora,
A super power only the gifted get.

Now the secret is out,
You know I have the gift of smell,
But I don't want to disclose it yet,
So let it be a secret, "Shh- Don't tell!"

S for Shirish Miss

It's a bitter-sweet moment when one of our colleagues bids farewell after serving this institution for more than 25 years. This poem is for a dear co-teacher , Shirish Miss.

S heer hard work and dedication, for more than 25 years,
She stands as an inspiration for her teacher peers,

H erd instinct was never her thing ,she has a mind of her own,
She labours on quietly , away from crowds,in her personal zone.

I nherent talent for poetry , she has artistic flair,
She remembers all the many changes, this institution did bear.

R egister work work , ION attendance and marks, always filled upto date,
Be it paper corrections or setting, she is never found to be late.

I ndiscipline is her bane, always punctual in her work,
She is rarely on leave of absence, her work she does not shirk.

S hor mat karo, she has an aversion to loud noise ,
Do keep her at an arms length, from all those naughty boys.

H appiness and good health is wished for you forever,
Shirish Miss, we bid you farewell, we will forget you never.
